Freshwater Lifeboat is crewed by volunteers from the local community. The crew are offered training in safety at sea, power boat handling, first aid and Yacht master navigation. As well as the boat crew, the unit is manned by ground staff who launch and recover the lifeboats as well as maintaining the launching equipment and boathouse facilities. We are always looking for volunteers either to join the boat crew or ground crew. Knowledge of seamanship is useful, but not essential as excellent training is offered. From the day you join the crew, you will be able to help in the operation of the boats and join the crew on twice weekly training sessions in either of the boats. After you have reached a level of competence where you are confident in the job, you are issued with a bleeper and become an active crew member. If you live locally and are interested in joining then feel free to drop in at the Boathouse on a Wednesday evening (from 7pm) or Sunday Morning (from 9am). |
